Leadership Lessons: A Conversation with Anna Green

For our International Women’s Day special episode, Broadsword’s own MD and one of the female leaders pushing boundaries and shaping the events industry, Anna Green joins us on the podcast. She discusses her career defining moments and how she juggles personal and professional life in a fast-paced industry and high-pressure role, while celebrating being yourself, the power of mentorship and support networks, and the mark she hopes to leave on our sector.

On this episode we have a conversation with Anna about her career defining moments, challenges, and how she juggles personal and professional life in a fast-paced industry and high pressure role, while celebrating the empathy, drive, and talent women bring to the events industry and the mark she hopes to leave on our sector.

Women make up 52% of the team at Broadsword and 46% of our senior leadership team, led by our Managing Director, Anna Green — an incredible example of a leader who has fostered an inclusive working environment and safe space for everyone to be themselves at Broadsword and continues to push boundaries in the events industry as a mentor and board member for both EVCOM and Events Apprenticeships.
“I would love it if every day had an element of International Women’s Day about it. IWD is a moment to celebrate the wonderful women that I work with, both at Broadsword but across the industry as well, reflect on the women in my life and through my life that have inspired me. Think about the contribution that women make to the world of work and how far we’ve come.”
“I do feel incredibly lucky to live in a time and in a society and a country, you where I am enabled and empowered to be a strong female leader. But I also love the fact that there’s always the conversation about what more is to be done. And it’s not complete. We need those strong female role models, we need to break down those barriers, those sort of societal conventions and norms and believe that anything is possible. So I’m always very mindful on International Women’s Day that I have a huge responsibility, both as a leader in my industry but also as a mother and a role model.”

Anna discusses the support and inspiration she had throughout her career from strong female role models and mentors and who have shaped her career — the importance of female leaders and building a support network. As a female leader, she feels a responsibility to share this with the next generation — making change in our agency and the wider events industry in early career pathways, creative education, and entry into the creative sector. Anna is a leader who makes the time for young women across the industry, students, and junior members of staff, ending the episode with advice to her younger self.
